Over the Labor Day weekend, on 5–6th September 2026, the International Youth Music Competition (IYMC), based in Atlanta, USA, brought together talented musicians from around the world for a special showcase at the DiMenna Center for Classical Music in New York City.

The weekend featured three concerts celebrating prize winners from IYMC’s monthly competitions, with performances across a wide range of instruments, including piano, voice, violin, cello, flute and even featuring various ensembles and an orchestra. The events offered a wonderful opportunity for young musicians to share their talent, gain performance experience and connect with fellow performers in a supportive musical environment.

One of the highlights of the weekend was the Piano Masterclass led by Romanian pianist Cristiana Achim. Working with talented musicians from the USA, Mexico, Hungary and Mongolia, Cristiana shared her musical insights and guidance, helping participants explore their interpretations, refine their performances and develop greater artistic confidence. The Piano Masterclass, a first for this edition, also reflected the international spirit of the IYMC, with participants bringing a variety of musical backgrounds and perspectives to their work.

Another highlight took place on Sunday, 6 September, with a Vocal Masterclass led by Christopher Brewer. This interactive event gave young singers the opportunity to work on their performances, receive feedback and learn in an engaging and encouraging setting. The masterclass were a wonderful addition to the weekend, celebrating the importance of vocal artistry and collaborative learning.

Through its monthly competitions, the International Youth Music Competition continues to create opportunities for emerging musicians around the world, welcoming performers across a variety of instruments and genres. From competition participation to live showcases and masterclasses, IYMC provides a platform for young artists to develop their skills, share their music and build connections within the international music community.
